Check Great River Energy's Load Managment Guide and today's load control.

Electric heat is 100% efficient. For example, it is more cost efficient to have a dual fuel system and have your primary heat be electric at 6.1¢ per kWh unless you can get propane at $1.51 a gallon.

These figures are based on the following assumptions:

  • Electric - 3,413 BTU's per kWh
  • Fuel Oil - 140,000 BTU's per gallon of #2 Fuel Oil
  • Propane - 92,000 BTU's per gallon
  • Natural Gas - 100,000 BTU's per therm

*All information above compares propane and natural gas at 92% efficiency and fuel oil at 85% efficiency with electric heating costs.
