A Diverse Mix of Generation Resources
Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative purchases wholesale electricity from Great River Energy (GRE),
a generation and transmission cooperative in Maple Grove, MN.
Great River Energy, on behalf of Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative and other distribution cooperatives,
has met the state’s renewable energy goal 8 years early by generating 25 percent of its electric
energy from renewable resources in 2017. Great River Energy has now voluntarily committed to
supply 50 percent of its generation from renewables by 2030. GRE power plants generate more
than 2,800 megawatts of electricity and several solar arrays are capable of producing 650 kilowatts.
In addition, GRE purchases wind and hydroelectric energy.
